line breaks and time-codes in dotsub
Hello all, Two simple questions : how do we insert line breaks in dotsub? I've tried the obvious, to no avail. This is a feature which should not be automated since a) correct semantic line breaks in subtitles can greatly facilitate reading and comprehension, and b) when reading the first line of a subtitle, your eye gets a preview of what's on the second line. Therefore, it is generally better that the bottom line be filled, not the top line, to speed up reading time (moreover, it doesn't interfere as much with the picture.)
Second question concerns the time codes : Would it be possible to modify the time-codes of the .srt file and then upload it back to dotsub to change the ins and outs of the subtitles? The timings are sometimes a bit off. Thanks, Philippe

Hi Philippe:
Thanks for your questions. The way our system is set up is that the transcript of the source language is used as a template for all of the subtitles in all languages. We do not yet have the ability to modify each language but we are working on it.
The time codes are fixed once the transcript is locked, again as a template for all languages.
As you may know, dotSUB is a new technology and we are constantly trying to improve our system. We appreciate your questions, and we are working on these issues.
Are you working on a TED video? If so, please know that the transcripts are done by the TED folks so you might want to mention the timing issue to TED at ***@ted.com.
