Dropbox Integration Getting Started Guide

Last Updated: Apr 07, 2017 11:13AM EDT
There are two parts to integrating Dotsub and your Dropbox account.

Video Ingest: Setting up Dotsub to pull in videos from your Dropbox account for captioning.
Captions Push: Setting up Dotsub to upload captions back into your Dropbox account.

What you need

In order to successfully set up your Dropbox integration to ingest videos and push subtitles, you will need to create a new Dropbox account (if you don't have one already) and obtain the API token from your Dropbox account.

How to obtain the API token

The first step is to log into Dropbox's development panel and click on "Create App":

On the app creation page, select
- Dropbox API
- Full Dropbox
- <YourCompanyName>-dotsub as the name of your App

On the Dropbox App page, locate and click  the "Generate Access Token" button

Copy & save the new token in a secure place. You will need this token to complete the configuration on Dotsub's project dashboard.

Setting up Dropbox Video Ingest

You can configure a Dropbox video ingest from the project settings tab in your project dashboard. Hitting the 'plus' on the Media Ingestors pane allows you to add a new ingestor. From the type menu select 'Dropbox'.

There are four required configuration options:

Folder: The path to the folder you want to ingest from, on Dropbox

Access Token: The token you generated on the Dropbox development panel

If no path is specified, all videos in your dropbox account will be ingested. If you specify a path, please always add a forward slash character at the beginning of the path (eg. "/my-folder").

Now all you have to do is add new media in the specified Dropbox folder, then hit the ingest button on Dotsub. Dotsub also automatically ingests new media at least one time a day.

Setting up Dropbox Captions Push

You can configure a Dropbox captions push from the project settings tab in your project dashboard. Hitting the 'gear' on the Media Push pane allows you to add a new ingestor. From the type menu select 'Dropbox'.

Please note: Dropbox media push workflow will only work if a dropbox ingestor is also configured, since subtitles are going to be stored in the same folder where the original media file was ingested from.

Media Push has two configuration options:

Format: The format of captions/subtitles sent to Dropbox. You can choose between SRT, WebVTT and DFXP (TTML).

Access Token: The token you generated on the Dropbox development panel

Once configured, each published caption or translation will be uploaded back into your Dropbox account, in the same folder where the original video file is stored. The file name of the subtitle files will match the original video's file name, with a suffix that indicates the caption language (eng, spa, fra etc.) and the file format (.srt, .vtt, .dfxp)

You can check that your configuration is correct on the 'Project Information' tab. Here you will see the push logs.
